Petrol price can be N40 per litre -IPMAN

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has agreed with the former Minister of Petroleum, Professor Tam David-West, that petroleum pump price can sell for N40 per litre.Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mosimi, Ogun State, Adeleke Bada said this in an interview with journalists shortly after the Annual General Meeting of the association, in Abeokuta.He said he feat would be possible if only all the refineries in the country are revamped.He blamed the non-compliance of sale of petrol at the N87 per litre by some petroleum marketers on the expenses incurred by the marketers while trying to get the fuel available for the use of the masses.

Another supporter of General Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect, Abubakar Duduwale, is set to embark a trek to Abuja, but this time, from Adamawa.Duduwale revealed to journalists in Yola, on Saturday, April 25, as he prepared to embark on his journey that he was traveling by foot to celebrate the victory of Buhari at the presidential election.He was said to have began his journey at Yola Gate on Yola-Numan highway at about 6:30 a.m.Duduwale disclosed that he had wanted to commence the trek a day after the Independent National Electoral Commission announced Buhari as a winner but somebody from Lagos beat him to it.He said: “The reason why I am trekking from Yola to Abuja is to express my joy and solidarity with President -elect Muhammadu Buhari. Bomb explosion rocks in Jos

Earlier on Saturday, a bomb explosion occurred at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, 3 Armoured Division, Rukuba Barracks, Jos, Plateau State.The Nigerian Army has released a statement explaining what really happened as well as to inform residents that all is well.The Spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, in a brief statement said “the explosion heard in Jos, Plateau State this morning was from an accident that occurred while troops authorized to destroy unservicable ammunitions were transporting the bad ammunition.“Some of the unserviceable ammunition exploded in the process of moving them to demolition site in the bush.”Colonel Usman added that the explosion did not affect the barracks or neighbouring communities.He nevertheless disclosed that “Unfortunately, two soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injuries. Normalcy has returned to the area.”

Ondo govt bans ogogoro drink

The Ondo State Government, has banned the production and consumption of locally-made gin, popularly known  as ogogoro in the state.This ban was put in effect as a result of the recent health hazards associated with its consumption.The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Dayo Adeyanju, announced the ban at a news conference, in Akure, on Saturday.The commissioner attributed the ban to the outbreak of an unknown disease two weeks ago in Irele Local Government Area of the state.“Our clinical analysis reveals the fact that there were no known viruses, while toxicology reports have confirmed our prime suspicion of methanol poisoning.“We have reviewed our strategies and embarked on sensitisation to let people know that locally-made gin is prohibited.“We will also embark on searches because this batch of methanol-containing gin must have gone round because 4 cases: 2 alive and 2 dead have been found in Odigbo Local Government Area,“ he said.According to the commissioner, the unknown disease ha…

INEC delegates 6 commissioners to monitor supplementary polls in Abia

Three resident electoral commissioners, in addition to three national commissioners, have been deployed to Abia for Saturday’s governorship and state assembly re-run elections.The elections will take place in nine local government areas of the state.INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity Department, Mr Edwin Enabor, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) over the phone in Umuahia on Friday that the commission was set for the re-run.Enabor said that the materials for the polls had been distributed to the INEC offices in the affected local government areas.Enabor expressed the hope that the exercise would be peaceful and hitch-free.NAN recalls that INEC declared the governorship election inconclusive, following the cancellation of results from some polling units in nine local government areas of the state.The  Returning Officer, Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, said that no winner was declared because “the margin of lead was not in excess of the total number of registered voters in polling uni…

Blast hits police vehicle in Pakistan

At least five policemen were injured when a bomb hit their vehicle in Pakistan’s northwest Peshawar city on Friday morning, local media reported.ARY News said that the police vehicle, which was on its routine patrolling across the city, was hit by a roadside planted explosive device in Gulbahar area of Peshawar, the capital city of the country’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.Officials said that the vehicle was targeted as soon as it left the police station for patrolling.The bomb disposal unit said that a timed device containing an estimated two kg of explosive materials was used in the blast.The injured cops were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where at least two of them are said to be in critical condition.Police cordoned off the area for investigations.No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

Oil marketers threaten to stop importation

Due to the yet-to-be-paid N256 billion subsidy claim by the Federal Government, the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), has, on Friday, threatened to stop the importation of petroleum products.The Executive Secretary of MOMAN, Obafemi Olawore made the disclosure at a news conference in Lagos.Olawore said, the last time the government paid marketers N100 billion subsidy claim was in February and it was paid in Sovereign Debt Note (SDN).He said the post-dated note would mature at the end of April.The secretary-general also said  before the N100 billion SDN was issued, the government was indebted to the tune of N315.8 billion."But if you deduct the N100 billion from the N315.8 billion, you will have 215.8 billion."Besides, the Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) had earlier approved Batches T and U for last quarter of 2014 for payment which amounted to N30.5billion."In 2015, we also have Batches A and B for the products imported by MOMAN whi…

Drug related offences: Four Nigerians for executed in Indonesia today

Four Nigerians with 6 other nationals will be executed for drug related offenses in Indonesia today.According to an Indonesian foreign affairs official, the convicts will be taken to Nusakambangan, the prison island off Java where they are to be executed.Australian and Nigerian government have been clamoring for clemency for the drug offenders but their plea appears to have fallen on deaf ears as the Indonesian government has finalised plans to execute the drug traffickers.It is a law in Indonesia that anyone, both foreigners and locals, caught with banned drugs will be executed.It will be recalled that a 42-year-old  Nigerian, Raheem Agbaje-Salami was executed in March in Indonesia for drug smuggling.

Orji urges INEC to release Abia result

WHO inaugurates African Vaccination Week

The World Health Organisation, on Thursday launched the African Vaccination Week in Lusaka, Zambia, under the theme ‘’Vaccination, a gift for life.’’According to the WHO’s, website, the event marks the commencement of a-week-long immunisation activities from April 24 to April 30 across all 47 countries in the WHO African Region.“Immunisation is one of the most cost-effective public health interventions but many children and adults still do not have access to many life-saving vaccines.“It is estimated that about three million children under the age of five years die each year in the African Region and a significant number of these deaths could be prevented by receiving immunisation,” the WHO said.The global world body noted that the AVW was designed to strengthen public awareness and demand for immunisation by communities, improve access for high-risk populations and isolated areas in the region.It added that the campaign would provide an opportunity to increase demand and utilisation …

Former Egyptian president,  Mohamed Morsi, has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by an Egyptian criminal court in Cairo, over the killing of protesters in 2012. Former President Morsi’s supporters attacked opposition protesters outside the presidential palace in December 2012, sparking clashes that killed at least 10 people.Delivering judgement, Judge Ahmed Youssef dropped the murder charges against Morsi and said the sentence was instead linked to the “show of force” against protesters & unlawful detentions. Morsi who is Egypt's first freely elected president came into office in 2011 after the overthrow of Hosni Mubarak. He was ousted by the army in 2013.

Lagos sets new date for 2015 Carnival

Ahead of the April 25 supplementary governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter, has called for the immediate removal of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Selina Oko and the Returning Officer, Professor Benjamin Ozumba.This was contained in a petition written by the party to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega.Abia PDP accused the REC and the Returning Officer of bias against its candidate, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.
